Driving up the winding mountain roads to visit Big Bear Valley and enjoy a stay at your Cool Cabin, you may pass by the old Dam Keepers House as you travel over the recently renovated Big Bear Dam. If these landmarks pique your curiosity, a visit to The Big Bear Valley Historical Museum would be a good way to spend your day.

The Big Bear Dam was put in place as part of a way to support the agricultural community in Redlands and was originally completed in 1884. At the time the damn only stood 60 feet tall and 300 feet wide. It's grown considerably since then but it was the start of our town becoming the destination that is today. At the time it made Big Bear Lake the largest man-made lake in the world!

For more information about the start of our town and how and why the valley became Big Bear check out the Big Bear Valley Historical Museum located at 800-B Greenway Drive, Big Bear City, CA, 92314. Please enter at the east end of the airport runway.
