Thinking about planning a trip to Big Bear and wondering when the best time to go? Our answer would be Fall. Fall is our favorite time in Big Bear. The trees are changing colors, the air is cool and crisp, the town is not too busy and there is still so much to do. In fall you can enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, concerts at the Cave, Oktoberfest, Fall Wine Walk, Comedy Festival and much more.

If you are a music lover, we suggest you book a stay to be in Big Bear to see a concert at The Cave. According to their website “The Cave is a truly one-of-a-kind concert and comedy venue in the heart of Big Bear. The lighting, sound, laser light shows, gourmet concessions, craft beer, comfortable seating, room to dance, and of course amazing acts are not common for such an intimate venue. It is this perfect mix of location, amenities, and amazing live entertainment that make The Cave a venue that will bring you closer to your favorite bands than you ever thought possible.” The fall concerts start with Black Flag on September 7th. If you can’t make it that weekend, Sept 13 and 14 have 2 great concerts. On September 13 you can enjoy Scott Stapp of Creed and then on September 14 come back for Plain White T’s. Two great shows on one weekend!  Gary Puckett and the Union Gap in coming to The Cave on September 21st. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was one of the most successful musical groups of the sixties. Gary’s unmistakable signature voice garnered six consecutive gold records and top ten Billboard hits! Check out their website, I’m almost positive they have something for everyone. If music is not your thing, there is still plenty more that Big Bear has to offer.

Fall means it is time to break out the lederhosen and dirndls for the 49th Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest runs every weekend from September 7th until November 2nd.  Oktoberfest has something for everyone, there are children’s contests, adult contests, dancing, great food, great music and of course beer. If you have not been to Oktoberfest in Big Bear, you are definitely missing out.

September 14th is the 11th annual Fall Wine Walk. This is a great event that sells out every year. Ticket holders receive a map of the 22 participating businesses, a commemorative wine glass, badge, 12 wine tasting tickets and a wristband at check-in. After that, you stroll around the Village, shop and taste wine.

If you are more of a thrill seeker and love the sport of Mountain Biking there are two weekends that you must come up. Yes, TWO weekends of Mountain Bike activities and racing. History is in the making as the Fox US Open of Mountain Biking makes its way to the west coast for the first time. On September 12th-15th at Snow Summit, there’s open class downhill racing and new for this year, the US Open will also host the final stop of the EWS North American Enduro Series. First place prize is $10k! September 28th is the Grizzly 100 and MTB Gran Fondo. The Grizzly 100 and MTB Gran Fondo are two of Southern California’s premier endurance bike races, featuring 20k, 30k, 50k, 75k, and 100k courses designed for intermediate and advanced riders on some of SoCal’s best single-track trails, right in the heart of the San Bernardino mountains.

September 28th is also the kickoff party to winter with the 16th Annual Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails. One of the most influential and innovative events in the snowboarding industry, Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails features some of the best riders in the world competing on a one-of-a-kind rail jam course designed and built by Big Bear Mountain Resort's renowned park staff. (Little secret: it is also the best day to purchase your 2019/20 Big Bear Mountain Resorts season passes!)
