Planning for your Trip to the Mountains!

Be prepared… Don’t forget the basics!

  • During winter months you will need to have Chains for your tires.  They must be kept in your car or truck – (even if it’s a 4-wheel drive)
  • Jackets and warm clothes (layers are key!)
  • Boots or sneakers for hiking / sightseeing
  • Bike racks, bikes, helmets
  • Towels and beach chairs, bathing suits

 The Essentials:

**Plan Ahead - Avoid overpacking... Unless you're going on a high-country adventure that requires special gear, pack two main outfits for daily wear and one evening outfit for a two- or three-day trip to the mountains.

  1. Clothing - Layering examples include shorts, long pants, T-shirts, light sweaters and light jackets. Although the days in the mountains can get quite warm, nights and mornings are often cold. Bring at least three pairs of socks and under clothing, regardless of the season.
  2. Water Bottles - Due to the increase in altitude, remember to drink plenty of water to help your body adjust. Some people don’t feel a difference, but it’s still a good idea to hydrate.
  3. Bags - Bring a small backpack or day pack, even if you don't plan on camping or hiking. Many mountain towns are easier to walk through and explore, so the pack will come in handy for carrying your necessities and toting around any purchases. Pack liquids, such as hair and skin care items, in a sealed plastic bag. As you travel to the mountains, altitude changes can cause containers to leak. A plastic bag protects the other items in your suitcase if leakage does occur. Regardless of the season, include sunscreen and sunglasses with your personal items.
  4. Toiletries - Depending on its exact location, your cabin may not be that close to a convenience store or drug store. The last thing you want after a long day hiking is to have to drive far away just to get shampoo! Be sure to pack all of the essential toiletries that you’ll need to be comfortable during your stay. It could save you a lot of time, and will help make sure your relaxing vacation is, in fact, relaxing.
  5. Games and Activities - If you’re traveling with family or friends, the last thing you want is for boredom to set in. Especially at night, ideas for things to do may not seem very obvious. Card games, board games, and other simple activities are great ways to pass the time and bring everyone together. Try to think of things that kids of all ages and adults will enjoy equally, so everyone is encouraged to participate in the fun!
  6. Camera - A mountain vacation is guaranteed to be an experience that you’ll want to remember. Having a camera on hand is the best way to capture the moments that your friends and family will be sharing. From shots of the beautiful landscape to candids of your loved ones hanging out, a high-quality camera will ensure that no one forgets the amazing trip!
  7. Chargers - Even during the most relaxing vacations, it’s impossible to leave technology behind altogether. Make sure you have all the chargers you need for your cell phone, camera, tablet, and any other electronics you’re bringing along. There will be plenty of beautiful nature to enjoy during your stay, but there’s no shame in bringing along some modern conveniences as well!  If you’re just not ready to unplug completely, make sure you book one of our cabins offing high-speed internet.
  8.  Most of all, prepare to HAVE FUN.  Leave your stress at home as much as possible to try to make the most of your treasured time away!
