I planned a day in Big Bear for you and I think you will enjoy it!

I have been coming to Big Bear since I was 5 years old when my Aunt and Uncle bought their first vacation home in Sugarloaf and at age 13 we moved here full time. I am now 26 and I’m still infatuated with the scenery, the community, the food and the culture. Pencil in a few of these activities I’ve mapped out and you’ll be an honorary Bigbearian in no time!

  1. Indulge in Breakfast at Grizzly Manor: You may have noticed a line on Big Bear Blvd outside of a brown building that appears to be no larger than your living room... There is a reason and that not so hidden gem is called Grizzly Manor. You must go, you must wait and you must eat your weight in biscuits, gravy, cheese, hash browns, bacon and eggs otherwise known as “The Blob”.  Grizzly Manor was founded in 1975 and has been a Big Bear staple ever since.

  1. Hike Castle Rock: Once you have successfully devoured “The Blob” you will most likely need to spend some time lounging in your Big Bear Cool Cabin rental. Once you have recovered, take a short drive to Castle Rock, a mild to moderate level hiking trail located in Boulder Bay just before the dam. This trail is not incredibly strenuous but still a decent work out. The view from the top is one of the best in Southern California. Take your time to enjoy that crisp mountain air.

  1. Visit the Big Bear Historical Museum: If you’re like me you love to learn about the places you travel to. What makes this place special? What is the history? Who was here before me? You will quite literally hit a Goldmine when it comes to learning about Big Bear and this little museum is just the place to do it.  It is great, inexpensive fun for the whole family at just $5 per admission. You can pan for Gold and learn how to wash your clothes the old fashioned way. Leave your cell phone in the car and travel back 100 years.

  1. Have Lunch at Teddy Bear Restaurant: I would say my top 2 favorite lunch spots are Teddy Bear’s and Local Tropicali. Although I suppose if I had to choose, I would choose Teddy Bear Restaurant which is just about the most wholesome café I’ve ever been to. It is located in the heart of The Big Bear Village. When I tell you this place has barely changed since I was a kid, I mean it. They still only accept cash to this day and while some people may find that inconvenient, I personally find it unwaveringly charming. The menu consists of delightful, light options which is ideal considering you are probably still full from breakfast.

  1. Walk the Alpine Pedal Path along Big Bear Lake: We should probably finish off the afternoon with a brisk walk on The Alpine Pedal Path which is perfectly located along Big Bear Lake. The path in total stretches over 5 miles, stop anywhere you’d like and walk down to the lake. There is also a whimsical bridge just past “Juniper Point” which is perfect for any Social Media pictures your heart may desire.

  1. Take a break from cooking at your Big Bear Vacation Rental, try Hacienda Grill: For dinner I think we should venture out for some Mexican Food. It is the perfect mix of upscale and affordable with an awesome atmosphere. Please try the trio fajitas and margaritas! Finish the day off with some fried ice cream or flan and you will have reached the end of a perfect day spent in Big Bear.
